The fairweather process

Aboard our boat, we value quality over quantity. Each fish is indivudally landed, headed, gutted, IV bled, and placed in our power blast freezer within an hour of leaving the ocean.

What sets us apart

  • fishing famliy Owned + Operated

Our supply chain couldn't get any simpler: six months per year, we live on our boat, catching wild seafood for you. Whenever the boat's full (generally, every two weeks or so), we offload our fish one by one into a refrigerated shipping container, where it's barged from Alaska to Washington. In Washington, it's transferred for trucking, and sent to cold storage in Downtown Boise.

  • Hook + Line caught

There's many responsible ways to harvest seafood, but we love the process of catching by hook and line. It allows us to take our time landing an processing each fish: minimizing bruising, scale loss, and loss of quality. Plus, it's just plain fun!

  • Blast frozen at sea

We've tried all the ways, and the verdict's in: the flavor, texture, and shelf life of frozen at sea fish is nearly impossible to beat. By blast freezing at sea, we are essentially freezing your fish in time - ensuring it retains summer-fresh flavor long past the winter to come.

  • Wild from alaska

There's many incredible fishermen doing the hard, honest work of harvesting and selling seafood! If we can't fit your seefood needs, that's okay. But before you head to Costco, we'd love for you to find a local family that supplies your region with fish. Check out Local Catch; they have a nationwide list of fishermen that direct market their catch. And when in doubt, always choose USA harvested seafood.

Why frozen at sea?

  • Premium flavor

Cellular degradation begins as soon as fish leaves the water, and often fish marketed as "fresh" is actually 10+ days old. Our fish are blast frozen aboard our boat within an hour of leaving the ocean. This locks in premium flavor, texture, and freshness.

  • 100% traceable

Fish is the #1 most mislabeled and poorly traced protein on the market. Freezing aboard our boat allows us to have complete control of the product chain. Our fish are not mixed in with other fisherman's catch -- we fill our own shipping containers, apply our own labels, and follow their journey to the lower 48 every step of the way.

  • Reduces waste

Per the USDA, 23% of seafood harvested from our precious oceans goes to waste! The fleeting shelf life of fresh fish often demands hasty, carbon heavy transportation methods. By purchasing frozen fish, you're helping both the ocean, and your wallet. Thaw at will, enjoy delicious fish, and reduce waste while you're at it.

  • Low bacteria + histamine load

As fish ages, bacteria accumulates, resulting in the "fishy" flavor that much of the seafood on the market has. Additionally, if left warm and uncleaned, fish begins to accumulate histamines, which a growing amount of our population is sensitive to. By immediately heading, gutting, IV bleeding, and blast freezing at sea, we halt bacteria and histamine accumulation in it's tracks.
